Join us once a month

Artists, writers, diplomats, professors and other distinguished guests share their experiences with Alliance Francaise members and non-members alike. Forty-five minute lecture followed by Q&A session. Coffee, tea and French cheese & sweets are served.

Afternoon Conferences are presented in French. Free for members; $10 for non-members (unless otherwise noted). Evening Conferences are most often presented in English. Open to everyone. Entry fee applies.

    Marina Neary

    “Victor Hugo's work and life in London ”

    October 15 @ 7 pm


    Marian J. Neary will lecture on Victor Hugo's exile-era novels, including his lesser known works and examine his turbulent fatherhood and the effect's of his daughter's death on his work.

    She will also introduce a few of the actors of her play "Hugo in London", scheduled to open in Greenwich at the end of October. M. Neary is a multilingual journalist and an award-winning historical writer.

    Jaqueline Pace

    “Mes Expériences avec la Resistance pendant
    la deuxième guerre mondiale”

    Née à Paris, Jacqueline Pace a vécu la seconde guerre mondiale en France, période pendant laquelle elle rencontrera son futur mari américain, qu’elle épousera à la fin de la guerre. Diplomee d’un B.A. et un M.S., Jacqueline Pace a consacré 46 ans à l’enseignement du français, dont 20 ans au Sacre Cœur de Noroton, 3 ans au Greenwich Country Day.

    Elle a 4 enfants, et toujours le même mari Jacqueline Pace est une fidèle Membre de l’Alliance. J. Pace parlera du développement de la Resistance dans la Bourgogne du Nord, et comment elle a pris en main les aviateurs alliés dont les appareils étaient abattus dans la région.

    Patricia Wells, Famous food critic

    Almost 30 years ago, Patricia and Walter Wells fell in love with France and its seductive charms. The two journalists had planned on an escapade for only two years. Today as food critic, author and teacher, Patricia is widely regarded as the leading American expert on French cooking. Walter was executive editor of the prestigious International Herald Tribune and in 2006 was awarded the French Legion of Honor.

    On Wednesday morning, May 7, this high- profile expatriate couple will share the fascinating details of their enduring affair with France, its customs and cuisine at the Garden Education Center of Greenwich. A delicious lunch of fresh and seasonal ingredients from Patricia's recipes will be featured and each guest will receive a personally inscribed copy of the couple's charming, recipe laden memoir; We've Always Had Paris...and Provence.
